Electra-Basildon-Truck-Insights

In 2024, Electra deployed a zero-emission truck into daily logistics operations in Basildon.

Designed for medium-haul regional distribution, the truck was continuously monitored through Electra’s InfoCentre platform, providing insights into performance, energy use, and long-term battery health.

This case study presents aggregated results from January – August 2024, alongside detailed trip-level analysis, showing how the vehicle delivers reliable, low-cost, and sustainable operations.

Key Metrics - 2024 Year Analysis

Monthly Performance Trends

  • The truck consistently travelled 73–86 km per day, averaging 77 km across the period.

  • Average daily energy consumption: 77 kWh.

  • Energy efficiency: 1 kWh/km.

  • Slight seasonal variations in winter due to cabin heating, but no material performance reduction.

Yearly Aggregation (Jan–Aug 2024)

  • Average Daily Distance: 77 km

  • Average Daily Energy Consumption: 77 kWh

  • Average Used SoC: ~50%

  • Efficiency: 1 kWh/km

Minimal Battery Degradation

  • 9,000 km travelled in 8 months

  • 9,000 kWh consumed – approx. 1 kWh/km efficiency

  • £2,500 estimated energy cost for the year to date

  • 50% average return-to-depot SoC – reliable range utilisation

  • 4,000 kg CO₂e savings compared with a diesel equivalent

  • Battery degradation of only 1.2% in 8 months

Operational Analysis.

Trip 1 (Latest Run)

  • Distance travelled: 69 km

  • Energy consumed: 75 kWh

  • Energy recovered: 12 kWh

  • SoC utilised: 45%

Trip 2 (Winter Run)

  • Distance travelled: 76 km

  • Energy consumed: 71 kWh

  • Energy recovered: 6 kWh

  • SoC utilised: 50%

Both trips confirm that even in colder months, efficiency remained strong, with only a minor increase in energy consumption due to heater usage.

Battery Health and Diagnostics.

Electra’s real-time monitoring platform provides advanced diagnostics on battery performance and usage patterns.

This indicates excellent long-term battery performance, with degradation well within expectations for commercial EV duty cycles.

No battery warnings or faults recorded in the last 3 months of operation.

  • Monitored through CATL algorithms and internal fault detection systems
  • No critical fault trends observed over the monitored period

Conclusions

The Basildon truck demonstrates the durability, efficiency, and sustainability of Electra’s zero-emission vehicles in real-world logistics applications:

  • Reliable Performance: Consistent 1 kWh/km efficiency across all seasons
  • Cost Savings: Approx. £2,500 annual energy cost vs. much higher diesel spend
  • Sustainability Impact: 4 tonnes of CO₂e avoided in under a year
  • Battery Longevity: Minimal 1.2% degradation in 8 months, 3.6% over 18 months
  • Operational Confidence: No critical battery faults detected

Electra’s Basildon deployment proves that zero-emission logistics can be both commercially viable and environmentally impactful.
